Joanne's Heart for Women

As women we are uniquely designed to be gatherers, nurturers, drawing from a place of intimacy with God and with others. We need to create the space to do that and the world (especially men) need for us to do that. Since I am Greek I love the movie: "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." Honestly, that is my family! One of the lines in the movie is this; " The man is the head but the woman is the neck that turns the head". Well, not exactly biblical but there is some truth in that. Women are the hub of the wheel for family life. We were designed for intimate relationships. As women, living in a world on steroids, we have gotten on the treadmill, forgotten who we are in Christ (King's kids), forgotten that we are wired for intimacy and hearing God's voice, forgotten that we can find streams in the desert. I see the breakdown of families related to the breakdown of women losing their sense of identity in Christ and their voice and purpose as women. Only by making room for our King can we impact our families. We are worn out, stressed out and empty. I see this in the women I minister to daily. I keep remembering when I was in Oregon recently...a young woman who noticed my southern accent. She asked me why I was in Oregon and I told her about the book that I am writing, Making Space for God. She leaned over to me with tears in her eyes and said: " I need that book desperately". That is what drives me to keep pressing on believing I have a voice to women in this nation. Women need to reposition their lives by making space for our King to rule and reign removing the things that have stolen His throne. Charles Stanley describes my personal heart's desire and my desire for other women:

When desire for God surpasses our eagerness for other pursuits, following through becomes much more likely.  But hunger for the Lord is an acquired taste.  The more we pursue Him, the greater our hunger will be.  However, if we ignore Him, what little appetite we have will diminish even further.

I fear that the world and the lies women have believed are diminishing the voice of God. There is not time to pursue Him as women are uniquely designed to do. Our appetites are gone because our lives are filled with other things.

My quest is to empower today's woman to shed the "clutter" she's collected and -- by transformational grace and truth -- remodel her life into a beautiful living space for the Spirit of God.
